Before you go checklist

ChecklistCheck for any travel alerts regarding your intended destination.
Read AMA Travel's tips for travellers before you go.
Bundle health and travel insurance before you leave to save on policies.
Check for changes to fees and weights for the baggage policy of your airline.
Update your passport if needed, check the expiry date and make copies.
Ensure you have the required entry visas and information on departure tax(es).
If needed, make travel documentation for children:

Get an extra copy of your prescriptions (both medical and optical) and medical certificates.
Purchase medication and supplies (enough for the trip and extra if lost or trip extends).
Purchase an extra pair of glasses.
Get any required immunizations and copies of your immunization records.
Purchase international driver's permit, if needed.
Register with the Canadian government office abroad.
Let your friends and family know where you are going, and leave your emergency contact copies of your important documents.
Purchase traveller's cheques, foreign currency, etc.
Contact your credit card and bank to inform them of your intended use and destination.
Remember to keep receipts from all purchases.
Make special arrangements for bringing back food animals, plants, etc.
