Highway alerts reported for Mountain Parks, Central (Red Deer) and Southern Alberta.
Athabasca & Area: Until August 1, traffic will be detoured for bridge construction on Highway 55 in Athabasca, between 48 and 43 streets. Expect occasional short term traffic disruptions, and the speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h, through the construction zone. Vehicles with wide and long loads are asked to use alternate routes, or use pilot vehicles and flag people, through the construction zone.
Fort McMurray & Area: Until August 31, expect minor delays, due to bridge construction at the Thickwood and Confederation interchanges, in Fort McMurray. Until July 31, there will be grading on Highway 63, by the Parson's Creek Interchange, north of Fort McMurray. Expect minor delays. Until June 30, expect minor traffic delays on Highway 63, from north of Wandering River to south of House River. Construction work will be done, during day light hours. Motorists should slow down, and pay attention to installed signs.
Grande Prairie & Area: Until August 31, expect minor delays on Highway 6 80, between highway 7 25 and 727 near Spirit River, due to bridge culvert replacement. The Speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h . Twinning construction is underway on Highway 43, west of Valleyview and the speed limit is reduced to 80 km/hr, through Sturgeon Lake Nation Reserve until further notice.
High Level & Area: Until September 15, there will be paving on Highway 58, 31 kilometer west of the Town of High Level. Speed will be reduced to 50 km/hr, and traffic will be down to one lane at times. The LaCrete Ferry located on Highway 6 97, near High Level is now open, operating 24 hours a day. The Tompkins Ice Bridge is now closed.
High Prairie & Area: Until July 15, base and paving work will be done on Highway 88, from Willow Creek to north of Highway 6 86, during day light hours. Speed limit will be 50 km/hr, with traffic down to single lane at times. There is currently a load restriction on this Highway, with 75 % ban. Until October 15, expect delays on Highway 88, from south of Wabasca River to north of Sennex Creek, due to construction. Speed is reduced to 50 km/hr . Until August 31, expect minor delays at the following locations, due to construction: Highway 2 over a Watercourse, west of Donnelly, Highway 49 between Highway 2 and 2A, and on Highway 49, from west of Highway 7 44 to Highway 2.
Lac La Biche & Area: Until August 15, traffic on Highway 55 between west of Iron River and Highway 41, will be controlled by flag persons, due to grading, paving and slope improvement work . Expect minor delays. Until June 30 expect delays on Highway 6 60, east of Highway 8 82 to Highway 28, near Bonnyville. One lane at a time will be closed for overlay paving operations.
Peace River & Area: Until May 30, there will be construction on Highway 2 , south of the Dunvegan bridge, between 7 am and 7 pm . Speed will be reduced to 50 km/hr, with the closure of southbound climbing lane. Flaggers will stop motorists, when equipment is on the active road. Expect delays. Until June 1, expect minor traffic delays on Highway 2A, from Highway 2 east to Grimshaw. Speed reduced to 50 km/hr, for bridge construction. Until October 15, minor delays can be expected on Highway 2, at the junction of Highway 688 neat St. Isidore. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr, and traffic will be reduced to one lane, controlled by flag people around the construction zone.
Edmonton & Area: Until June 15 there will be construction on Highway 21, north of Highway 623 to Fort Saskatchewan. Expect major delays. Until June 15, expect minor delays on Anthony Henday Dr, from Highway 2 to north of Terwillegar Drive interchange, in the City of Edmonton to accommodate paving. Until June 15, lane closures during construction may cause delays in traffic movement, on the interchange at the junction of Anthony Henday Drive and Cameron Heights, in the city of Edmonton.
Vermilion & Area: Until June 30, there will be construction on Highway 831, between Highway 45 and 28, near Andrew. Traffic will be down to one lane with alternating traffic, during construction hours. Lane width will be restricted to 4 meters. Vehicles wider than 4 meters should use alternate routes.
East of Red Deer: Until June 21 there will be constructions at the following locations: On Highway 36 from north of Highway 5 86, to south of Highway 12 near Castor. On Highway 9 from west of Stanmore, to east of Highway 8 84. Delays will be minor. Until June 25 expect minor delays on Highway 36, from north of Highway 5 61, to Highway 9 near Hanna.
North of Red Deer: Until July 31, expect minor delays on Highway 2A , at the junction of Spruce Road, South of Ponoka due to paving. Until August 31, minor delays can be expected on Highway 604, between Highway 2A and 7 92 near Lacombe, because of bridge construction.
South of Red Deer: Until June 15, motorists can expect periodic lane closures, on the bridge carrying Highway 27, over the Red Deer River in Sundre. Lane width will be reduced to 3.7 meters, so any loads exceeding this width will have to use alternate routes.
West of Red Deer: Until April 2014, there will be construction on Highway 22, south of Drayton Valley. Expect traffic detours and speed reductions, during the construction. Short term major delays can be expected. Until July 31, expect minor delays on Highway 11A, at the junction of Poplar Ridge Road, West of Red Deer due to paving. Until August 15, expect minor delays on Highway 22, from south of Highway 5 80 to south of highway 5 82 near Cremona, due to construction. Reduced speed limit will be in effect.
East of Calgary: Until October 15,2013, there will be Interchange Construction, at the junction of Stoney Trail and Nose Hill Drive, in the City of Calgary. Expect minor delays, with lane closures and speed reductions.
North of Calgary: Until September 1, expect minor delays on Highway 2 both north and southbound lanes, from north of Highway 2A to south of Highway 5 81, near Carstairs due to construction.
South of Calgary: Until the fall of 2012, eastbound Highway 22X, to southbound Deerfoot Trail South East, traffic will be moved onto a temporary access ramp, to complete the Interchange work . Until May 31, expect minor traffic delays on Highway 22, from west of highway 22X to east of 7 62, near Priddis due to paving . Until June 15, expect lane closures on Highway 2, from north of Highway 2A to north of Highway 5 47 near Okotoks. Until June 15, expect lane closures on Highway 22, from south of Highway 7 to the Sheep River, in the town of Black Diamond. This is to accommodate paving work.
West of Calgary: Until June 30, expect lane closures and speed reductions on Stoney Trail, between highway 1 and 2. Construction is done during off peak hours. Until August 1, expect minor delays on Highway 1A, from east of Highway 22 to west of Highway 7 66 near Cochrane, due to construction. Expect minor delays on Stoney Trail and Crowchild Trail Interchange, North West Calgary. Construction will be completed by June 30.
East of Lethbridge: Until June 1, traffic on Highway 8 79 will be limited to one lane, from the town of Foremost to south of Highway 3. This is to accommodate paving work. Expect delays.
Medicine Hat & Area: Until June 30,there will be grading and paving work, on Highway 41 at the Elkwater Slide, south of Highway 5 14. Motorists can expect detours and alternating one way traffic, controlled by flag persons.
South of Lethbridge: Until October 15, there will be paving and grading work on Highway 5 29, between the Little Bow Provincial Park Access and Highway 8 45. Delays will be minor.
West of Lethbridge: Until July 15, traffic on Highway 2 between Highway 3 and Highway 519, south of Claresholm will be limited to one lane due to paving. Expect delays. Until June 10, motorists can expect minor delays and single lane alternating traffic, on the following highways in the Pincher Creek area, to accommodate paving and side slope repairs. Highway 6 from south of Pincher Creek, to east of Highway 507; Highway 510, between Highway 3 and Highway 7 85; Highway 7 85 east of its junction with Highway 6, and Highway 507 from its junction with, Highway 7 74 to Pincher Creek. Motorists should use caution and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people.
