Birth certificates
Whether you are celebrating the arrival of a new addition to the family or simply wish to replace your Alberta birth certificate, we can help you with the paperwork.
Alberta has two types of birth certificates:
- Birth certificate with personal information.
- Birth certificate with personal and parentage information.
This certificate contains the names and birthplaces of the parents. When there is only one parent listed on the Registration of Birth, only that parent and their information will appear.

What to do to order your birth certificate or photocopy of registration
- Check your eligibility to apply
- Visit one of our 18 retail centres conveniently located around Alberta
When you come in, remember to bring:
- Your AMA membership card
- One piece of acceptable personal identification
- Your completed Application for Birth Documents
Please note:
- Your birth certificate/document should arrive by mail 7-10 days after you place your order. If you'd like to have it sooner, you can pick it up in person - ask us for details.

- When the birth did not happen in Alberta, contact the jurisdiction where the birth took place, for more information.
- You can also mail in your request. Complete the Vital Statistics application form.
Photocopy of registration
Photocopies of registration are certified photocopies of original birth registrations, not an actual certificate. Learn more from Service Alberta's Available Birth Documents
