According to a recent study, about 50% of the vehicles on the road in Canada have at least one tire that is either over inflated or under inflated by more than 10%. Test your tire knowledge in the short quiz below:

The best place to find the recommended tire pressure for most vehicles' tires is:
  1. What is stated on the sidewall of the tire
  2. The tire placard or vehicle's owner's manual
  3. The rim of the tire

Under-inflation may lead to tire failure.
  1. True
  2. False

Tire pressure should be checked with a gauge at least every:
  1. Month
  2. Six weeks
  3. Three months

A vehicle walk around visually inspecting your tires should be done prior to:
  1. Starting your day
  2. Each trip
  3. Both A & B

The only way you can tell if a tire is properly inflated is:
  1. By kicking it
  2. By looking at it
  3. By using a pressure gauge

Stopping on a wet road surface can take up to:

The best place to find the recommended tire pressure for most vehicles' tires is:
B-The tire placard or vehicle's owner's manual.
Remember that the tire sidewall DOES NOT provide this information; instead it lists the maximum allowable pressure for that specific tire.

Under-inflation may lead to tire failure.
A-True
An under inflated tire results in increased heat buildup that can cause internal damage to the tire and even lead to tire failure.

Tire pressure should be checked with a gauge at least every:
A-Month
Make sure to check the pressure when the tires are cold.

A vehicle walk around visually inspecting your tires should be done prior to:
Both A & B- Always check for hazards prior to each trip.

The only way you can tell if a tire is properly inflated is:
C-Using a pressure gauge
This is the only accurate way to say exactly how much air is in your tire.

Stopping on a wet road can take up to:
A-Four times the normal distance than on a dry pavement and even longer on snowy or icy roads.
Increase your space and reduce your speed when driving in less than ideal conditions.

You have now completed the quiz. How did you stack up?

  • If you scored between 6 out of 6 correct you are a very knowledgeable driver.
  • If you scored between 4 and 5 correct, you need to review your vehicle's owner's manual and vehicle inspection policy.
  • If you had 3 or less questions correct or you had trouble answering these questions, you can learn more about proactive driving by taking the AMA Proactive Defensive Driver Improvement online course.
