AMA's New Driver Basic Program provides an extensive and engaging learning experience utilizing the latest in educational practices. It is geared for the student who:

  • Already has a foundation of driving experience
  • Has an aptitude for driving
  • Has a family that is fully engaged in the learning

This course offers new drivers:

  • 18 hours of interactive classroom instruction. (Three hours more than Alberta regulations require).
  • 10 hours of in-car lessons (Five, two-hour sessions).
  • Optional home pick up (for a small fee). 
  • Automatic transmission.

This course offers parents/guardians of new drivers:

  • A copy of the AMA Coaching Guide: Provides practical suggestions on how to take an active role in coaching your new driver.
  • Record of Driving Achievement: Helps parents and students track progress throughout the in-vehicle portion of the program.

AMA's New Driver Ultimate Program is the most comprehensive learning experience for those who have little prior driving experience, or who have limited access to a qualified coach to practice driving.

This course offers new drivers:

  • 18 hours of interactive classroom instruction. (Three hours more than Alberta regulations require).
  • 20 hours of in-car lessons (ten, two-hour sessions).
  • Proactive Defensive Driver Program (a $140 value). A classroom program to be taken six to 12 months after licensing.
  • Home, school, or work pick-up. Some restrictions apply. 
  • Choice of automatic or manual transmission (Manual transmission where available).

This course offers parents/guardians of new drivers:

  • A copy of the AMA Coaching Guide: Provides practical suggestions on how to take an active role in coaching your new driver.
  • Record of Driving Achievement: Helps parents and students track progress throughout the in-vehicle portion of the program.

AMA Driver Education offers different payment options to accommodate different budgets.

Option #1: Three Equal Payments
One third at the time of registration, one third approximately 30 days later and a final payment 30 days after that.

Option #2: Pay for Classroom Portion Upfront and then Two Equal Payments
Pay for the classroom portion at time of registration; the remaining balance of course fees will be split into two equal payments and paid 30 days apart.

To register and take advantage of one of the payment plan options, please call 1-800-642-3810 or visit an AMA location near you. With either of these payment options students are not assigned to an in-car instructor until the final payment is processed.

Option #3: Register now and pay in full by Visa or MasterCard.

In-centre payments can be Visa, MasterCard, cash, cheque or debit.
