There are countless excuses drivers use to justify speeding.
Remember that speeding seriously affects your ability to steer safely around curves or avoid objects in the roadway. In an emergency, speeding lengthens the distance required to stop a vehicle.
Almost 24 per cent of all fatal crashes in Alberta involve driving at a speed unsafe for the conditions present on the road.
Speeding affects the time to react to traffic signals such as red lights or stop signs, in fact in Alberta, almost half of all crashes and approximately 25 per cent of traffic fatalities occur at intersections, many of these collisions involve speeding and running red traffic lights.
Speeding affects the time to react to potential road hazards that may be present, like an animal running onto the road or children darting into traffic.
Be proactive, always drive to road conditions and remember the maximum speed posted is the maximum speed under ideal conditions.
