Birth certificates

In order to request a birth certificate, you must be a member in good standing with the AMA, CAA or AAA. Not a member? Become a member now.

Request your birth certificate or photocopy of registration

When you come in, remember to bring:

Your AMA membership card.
One piece of acceptable personal identification.
Proof of your eligibility to apply for the birth certificate - your relationship to the individual on the certificate.
Information about the date and place of birth. When the birth did not happen in Alberta, contact the jurisdiction where the birth occurred to complete your request.

You should receive your birth certificate/document 7-10 days after you place your order. Birth certificates can be picked up in person if required sooner (some restrictions apply).

Types of birth certificates

Birth certificate with personal information.
Birth certificate with personal information and parentage.
This certificate contains the names and birthplaces of the parents. When there is only 1 parent listed on the Registration of Birth, only that parent and their information will print.

Both birth certificates are:

12.5 cm x 17.5 cm
Secure, with 24 security features to protect against identity theft, fraud and tampering.
Certified extracts containing information from the original Registration of Birth.

Both birth certificates contain:

Full name at birth
Date of birth
Place of birth
Sex

Registration number
Registration date
Date issued

What is a photocopy of registration?

Photocopies of registration are certified photocopies of original birth registrations, not the actual certificate.
