Web Developer, Web Services

Reports to: Rod Hodgson, Manager, AMA Web Services
Status: Full Time Permanent
Location: South, Edmonton
 
The Position:
AMA is looking for a web developer with strong Java and CSS skills to join its Web Services team. This position reports to the Manager of Web Services and works with a multidisciplinary team responsible for all aspects of AMA’s various web properties. In this role you will work on agile projects, change requests and bug fixes. Developers work closely with the rest of the web team, business stakeholders, as well as Marketing and IT staff to improve or deliver new content and services for all of AMA’s websites.
 
Background (Education/Licenses/Work Experience):
The successful candidates will have:
  • A related post-secondary degree or diploma (Computer Science degree is an asset)
  • Worked in a web development environment for a minimum of 5 years, bringing a strong background in web development, database integration and the ability to develop quality, standards compliant code
 
Skills and Proficiency:
The successful candidate will be an experienced Java programmer with:
  • Extensive experience with major Java frameworks and an understanding of their strengths & weaknesses
  • Excellent HTML and CSS skills and the ability to create table-less CSS driven markup
  • Experience with multiple languages including Java, PHP, JavaScript (jQuery), XML and XSL to create new content, functionality and services
  • Experience designing and implementing database–driven web functionality using MySQL and MS SQL
  • Familiarity with Open Text software (aka RedDot) for web content management, website presentation and enterprise content management (CMS, LiveServer, Livelink) would be a benefit
  • Understanding of browser compatibility issues and the ability to develop standards compliant code that works across all major browsers
  • Experience working in an agile web development environment
  • Experience being the technical lead on projects
  • A strong understanding and commitment to developing code that provides an optimal user experience
