AMA Promotes Idle-free |
|
AMA centre parking lots are now idle-free. We encourage visitors to turn off their vehicle engines in support of our environmental efforts to reduce idling and promote responsible energy consumption.
Don't Be Idle: Use Less Gas and Save More Cash The following tips will help you increase fuel efficiency, save money, and protect the environment.
- Turn the engine off if you are going to be parked for more than 60 seconds, except in traffic. This will reduce fuel consumption, increase fuel efficiency, save you money, and reduce emissions.
Excessive Idling is Hard on Your Engine
- Idling generates water condensation in your vehicle exhaust, which can corrode your exhaust system and cost you money.
- Idling engines are not operating at a PEAK temperature. Fuel residues condense on cylinder walls where they can ultimately contaminate oil and damage engine components.
Warming your Vehicle
- Driving your vehicle is the best way to warm it up.
- Warming up involves more than your engine. The tires, transmission, wheel bearings, and other moving parts need to be warm for the vehicle to perform well. Most of these parts don't warm up until you drive the vehicle.
- Using a block heater to warm up your engine two hours before heading out can reduce your winter fuel consumption by 10%.
- When the temperatures exceed -30 degrees Celsius, your vehicle only requires 3 minutes of idling to warm up. Just make sure your windows are clear before you leave!
