On the heels of Alberta's latest cold snap, the Alberta Motor Association, in partnership with Parks Canada, is pleased to announce that AMA Road Reports® now has two new cameras live on the TransCanada highway at Sunshine and Lake Louise.
"This is a great opportunity for Albertans," says Terry Clovechok of AMA. "Both Parks Canada and AMA have a strong commitment to public safety, and having these cameras up allows travellers access to the most up-to-date and accurate road information available so they can plan to have a safe trip."
The addition of these units brings the total number of cameras to 78, providing extensive coverage across the province. Locations were chosen to fill a gap that existed through the mountain parks region and facilitate the high volume of motorists in these areas year round.
"People planning a visit to Banff and the other mountain national parks want to make informed decisions," says Banff Field Superintendant Kevin Van Tighem, Parks Canada. "I'm confident that these new cameras will help those planning visits to the great snow country up here in Canada's Rocky Mountains to get timely, real information about road conditions."
Local RCMP are also pleased to see another way for motorists to stay safe on the roads during their winter travels. "Live cameras like these will hopefully help drivers to make an informed decision on whether to head out on a trip," says Cpl. Gary Fedrau of the Banff RCMP Detachment. "They can also use the information obtained to exercise caution when travelling to their destinations."
AMA has been providing this service to Alberta motorists since 1927. In partnership with Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation, AMA Road Reports® helps you safely plan your next trip by providing current reports on road conditions throughout the province, based on information received from highway maintenance contractors, the RCMP and Parks Canada.
The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is the largest membership organization in Alberta, representing more than 889,000 members. As a leading advocate for traffic safety, travel and consumer protection, crime prevention, and the environment, AMA represents the interests of its members and the motoring public to industry and all levels of government.
