AMA Insurance announces new Chief Operating Officer

Don Smitten, President of the Alberta Motor Association, is pleased to announce that Robert Katzell has been appointed as the new Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AMA Insurance.

“We are very pleased to welcome Robert to his new role,” said Mr. Smitten. “His commitment to AMA and passion for AMA Insurance, coupled with his vision and ability to build strong working relationships, will deliver valuable results for AMA and its members well into the future.”

Katzell joined AMA’s legal team in 1997 and has spent the last four years as the Director of Claims for AMA Insurance. Prior to joining AMA, Katzell gained leadership experience as a commanding officer with the Canadian Forces Special Investigation Unit and as a litigator with a prominent Edmonton law firm.

“I am excited and honoured to have been selected to lead an organization like AMA Insurance,” said Katzell. “We have an exceptional team at AMA Insurance and we’re committed to continuing to find ways to improve insurance for our members.”

AMA Insurance operates as part of the Alberta Motor Association, which is the largest membership-based organization in Alberta.

Katzell lives in Edmonton with his wife, Kathleen, and their three children, Alexis, Graham and Sophia.
