We're Involved In The Community

Advocacy & Community Services

AMA is proud to be an advocate of consumer and safety needs, and a champion for the rights of motorists and travelers in Alberta.

We support Albertans across the province with programs such as Road Reports, Give Us Room to Work, and through our advocacy and education on traffic safety issues such as Distracted Driving, rural road signage and at-risk drivers.

AMA also provides local support through our own programs and partnerships with community organizations. For example, AMA School Safety Patrol, Stop Thief!, Shredding Events, AMA Green Driving Team and Neighbourhood Watch.

Corporate United Way Campaign

AMA has been actively involved with the United Way for many years. Every October we run our United Way Campaign, where there are fun things to do, all in the spirit of giving back to the people in our communities.

With bake sales, chili competitions and online auctions, we have a lot fun. Through the generous hearts of AMA staff, we're proud to have raised monies in the tens of thousands the last several years.

Employee Organized Fundraising Events

We're proud of the generosity of our employees, who arrange and participate in a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Some events have become annual; however, many of the charities we get involved with will change from year to year to give back to a variety of causes.

Some of the causes and charities we've been involved with in the past few years include:

  • The Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life
  • The Stollery Children's Hospital of Edmonton
  • The Food Bank
  • The Canadian Red Cross

Volunteer Day

AMA is an organization that cares about its members, its employees, and the communities in which we live and work. The Volunteer Program provides all employees with paid leave to volunteer in the community, with any organization of their choice.

We Care About The Environment

We strive to be environmentally responsible in each of our areas of business. There are numerous green initiatives underway at AMA. One of the most notable is the construction of our new AMA Kingsway office in Edmonton, which was completed in August of 2010.

Some of the features include a geo-thermal heating and cooling system, light sensors to limit power use, and low-flush plumbing.

AMA's member magazine, Westworld, reduces its carbon footprint by printing all issues on 10% post-consumer recycled content and using vegetable-based ink. Accordingly, we reduce paper waste and promote recycling of the magazine.

We're very excited about the new Bridgewater Bank biodegradable MasterCard. The Bridgewater Bank CAA MasterCard is produced using bio PVC, a 98% biodegradable card plastic. Through its partners, Bridgewater Bank is proud to offer the very first biodegradable MasterCard in Canada.

We Have Fun!

Social Events

Each of our Alberta regions has a group of enthusiastic volunteers who plan fun activities for their local staff. The types of events planned in each region will vary, as each group has flexibility to plan events catered to the employees within their centre. It's all about the fun factor!

Corporate Challenge

AMA staff know how to get into the Corporate Challenge spirit. Employees in Edmonton and Calgary show their sportsmanship and team spirit by taking part in a variety of fun-filled athletic and non-athletic events.

AMA staff have fun while developing pride and team-building, with a little health and wellness thrown in.

It isn't just the athletes that get the chance to show off their talents. Many events are tailored to other skill sets, and there are plenty of opportunities for volunteering. AMA's Corporate Challenge teams also provide staff the opportunity to get to know other employees that they wouldn't otherwise get the chance to meet.
