- How do you get the road condition information that is shown on your website and heard on your toll free number?
Through partnership with Alberta Transportation and Parks Canada we receive road condition updates from their highway maintenance contractors in the morning and then again when the road conditions change. If the road conditions do not change the highway maintenance contractors are not required to submit road condition updates to AMA Road Reports®.
- Quite often on your website I see road condition information that is six hours old or older. Why is that?
Either the road conditions have not changed or AMA Road Reports® has not received a road condition update from Alberta Transportation or Parks Canada highway maintenance contractors.
- I am looking for current road conditions, but all I see are camera images from several days ago. Why are you posting outdated information?
It is possible that your browser is loading a previous version of the webpage from your cache, which means that you might not be seeing recent changes (browsers store images so that pages will load faster the next time you visit them). Try refreshing the page (click here to see where to find the Refresh button in your browser). If that doesn’t work, you may need to do a hard refresh on the page. On a PC, press Ctrl - F5; on a Mac, press CMD (Apple) - Shift - R. If you are still seeing an old version of the webpage, you may have to empty your cache. For Internet Explorer, this may differ depending on the version you are using. Generally, look in the Tools menu, under Internet Options - General, for Browsing history or Temporary Internet files. Delete all. In Safari, select Empty Cache from the Safari menu; in the pop-up window click Empty. You can also use the shortcut Option (Alt) - CMD - E. In Firefox, in the Tools menu, look for either Clear Recent History or Clear Private Data, depending on the version you are using.
- Why is the time listed with the road condition information?
A date and time stamp notifies viewers of the actual date and time the website was last updated by Alberta Transportation and Parks Canada highway maintenance contractors.
- Is there a phone number I can call?
If you’re on the road and want to know the highway conditions, call AMA’s toll free number 1-877-262-4997 (1-877-AMA-HWYS).
- Who decides when a highway should be closed?
AMA Road Reports® receives road closure information from Alberta Transportation, Parks Canada or the police.
- Who decides where the highway cameras will be?
Alberta Transportation owns seventy-six of the highway cameras featured on our website. Parks Canada owns the other two. Each group determines where their cameras will be located. AMA receives images from the highway cameras for display on its AMA Road Reports® website as part of a partnership between Alberta Transportation, Telvent Canada, Parks Canada and AMA.
