General information

  • Roadside Assistance provides 24-hour emergency service throughout Canada and the United States. 
  • Vehicles disabled in traffic receive priority over those waiting at home or office. See the services covered under your membership.
  • AMA will inform you, whenever possible, of delays due to heavy demands during bad weather, heavy traffic or unusual conditions.

Makes, models & services covered
Basic: All four-wheel motor-driven passenger, pleasure or recreational-type vehicles, if the service can be safely delivered; campers/motor homes will be provided all services except towing, extrication/recovery and tire service. Dual-wheel unloaded pickup trucks are provided all services except tire service. For trailer coverage, see CAA Plus RV.
CAA Plus: Same as Basic, with full coverage extended to motorcycles.
CAA Plus RV:

No weight restriction on eligible passenger, pleasure or recreational vehicles for towing, winching and tire changes. Full coverage is extended to all types of non-commercial trailers.

Non-tow coverage
Basic: Free boosting, tire change, fuel/air delivery and lockout service from the nearest Roadside Assistance service provider, free of cost to the member regardless of distance. Dual-wheel vehicles excluded from tire change.
CAA Plus: Same as Basic. 
CAA Plus RV:

Same as Basic, except eligible dual-wheeled vehicles are covered for tire changes.

Towing service
 Basic: At the member's choice, 5 km in any direction from the point of breakdown or to a repair facility en route.
CAA Plus: Up to 160 km from the point of breakdown in any direction to a repair facility of the member's choice.
CAA Plus RV:

Up to 160 km from the point of breakdown in any direction to a repair facility of the member's choice. No weight restriction on eligible recreational vehicles.

Boost/temporary adjustments service
Basic: Provide battery boost and minor adjustments to start a disabled vehicle.
CAA Plus: Same as Basic.
CAA Plus RV:

Same as Basic.

Flat-tire service
Basic: Change of spare from rack to wheel. Does not include tire repair or dual wheels.
CAA Plus: Same as Basic.
CAA Plus RV:

Same as Basic, except eligible dual-wheeled vehicles are covered for tire changes.

Fuel delivery service
Basic:

Delivery of a limited supply of fuel to a member's disabled vehicle, enabling the member to reach the nearest service station. Members will be charged up to the current pump price for fuel.

CAA Plus: Same as Basic, but fuel is free.
CAA Plus RV:

Same as CAA Plus.

Lock-out/key service
Basic: If the key that operates or provides access to the passenger compartment of the vehicle is lost, broken, or the service provider can not gain entry, the AMA shall provide locksmith service up to $50, or reimbursement of commercial locksmith service up to $50. If necessary, the AMA also will provide tow service.
CAA Plus: If key cutting or lock repair is required to make the vehicle operable, AMA will cover up to $100 of parts and labour.
CAA Plus RV:

Same as CAA Plus.

Winching/extrication
Basic: The member's vehicle will be winched when it can be safely reached from a normally travelled road or established thoroughfare. If special equipment, more than one truck or more than one person is required, the associated cost will be at the member's expense.
CAA Plus: When required, a second person and truck provided.
CAA Plus RV:

Same as CAA Plus. No weight restriction on recreational vehicles.

Road service is available to the member when the eligible vehicle he/she is driving, or riding in as a passenger, is unable to proceed under its own power due to mechanical failure.

  • Only members are eligible for Roadside Assistance. Non-members presenting a member's card are not eligible for Club service.
  • If a valid membership card and driver's licence are not presented at the time of service, the service provider will charge at prevailing commercial rates.
  • All members, including associate members, may receive up to five Roadside Assistance calls per membership year. Members exceeding five calls will be required to pay for the service.
  • CAA Plus and CAA Plus RV cannot be purchased for immediate use or to cover pre-existing conditions.

Coverage cannot be extended for the following:

  • Second or additional trips by the Auto Club on any one call, including re-tows from residence to repair facility
  • Service to vehicles driven into areas not specifically designed for public travel
    i.e., private commercial roads, vacant lots, creek beds, frozen lakes, etc...
  • Service to vehicles without valid licence plates
  • Towing due to infraction of the law
  • Extra kilometre charges
  • Cost of fuel, parts or supplies (note: fuel exception under CAA Plus and CAA Plus RV).
  • Cost of tire or mechanical repairs
  • Cost of battery charge or thawing of frozen vehicles
  • Towing under police direction or due to infraction of the law
  • Storage and impound fees
  • Taxi, ferry or toll charges
  • Vehicle rental expenses

Non-eligible vehicles

  • For-hire vehicles (taxis, limousines)
  • Buses
  • Ambulances
  • Or as deemed by CAA/AAA

If, after contacting CAA/AAA for service, it is determined that there are no CAA/AAA Roadside Assistance contractors servicing the area, AMA will reimburse the cost of prevailing commercial rates for the area.

However, if a member does not request the CAA/AAA Roadside Assistance contractor that services the area, reimbursements are limited to the AMA Club Set Rate. In many instances, the amount refunded to a member will be less than the actual expense paid to the non-CAA/AAA service provider.

Service receipts must have been issued from a registered company. 

1. 

Members are entitled to free towing, up to mileage limits in any direction from the point of disablement OR to the nearest responding Roadside Assistance contractor's base OR to a facility en route. Members will pay for mileage beyond the outlined limits at commercial rates.

2. 

Members, or their designated representatives, who cannot accompany the disabled vehicle or meet the tow truck operator at the destination must book a repair facility and pay applicable mileage charges in advance. This is also required if the tow is needed within the Edmonton or Calgary boundaries. 

3. 

AMA is not able to tow a vehicle from one facility to another until one agrees to make the repairs.
